Will you relocate when you retire?
What are you looking for in retirement? Are looking to move when you retire? There are plenty of people telling you here or there is the best place. Finding the best place is a compromise. Just don’t compromise too much, get all the information first.
This goal of this blog is to provide you with information to make a decision that is right for you. Step one is to decide what you like and want, don’t be convinced by other people’s whims, don’t follow the herd, take the road less traveled. Of course, that is easier said than done. What are your hobbies, do you have special needs, what have you enjoyed throughout your life? You are looking to retire, not start over. Are you looking for a warmer or cooler climate? Don’t go to the extremes. Are you looking for a place with a lower cost of living?
The best place for you to retire is not necessarily the place that is rated best place to retire by all the surveys. It may not even be in the top 10 maybe not even top 100. I have chosen to retire in Baton Rouge, LA, even though my wife and I love the mountains, and we have a subdivision in Northeast Alabama with superb mountain views and beautiful rolling hills. I have my own personal reasons, but Baton Rouge has great weather and the economics works for us.
If you interested in retiring in South Louisiana, there some really good homes, in really good older subdivisions that can be purchased at a really good price. Many of the good older well maintained subdivisions hasn’t had much turn over in ownership, which has kept the appraisal values lower since the previous sales in the area was done before the inflated prices. This is bad for the seller, but good for the buyer. My neighbor has a house for sale by owner, he is moving to be close to his grandchildren. For more information see
